Wrinkle treatments

Indications:

As part of the aging process fine and coarse wrinkles appear on the body, especially on the delicate facial skin.

These wrinkles can be partly attributed to the effects of gravity, i.e. the loose connective tissue no longer holds the skin tight, and it starts sagging due to gravity. A typical example of these wrinkles are the nasolabial lines running from the side of the nose towards the edge of the mouth.

Another type of wrinkles known as expression lines caused by facial muscle contractions, and appear when the skin loses its ability to return to perfect smoothness even when the muscles are relaxed, e.g. forehead lines and crows’ feet.

Depending on the origin and depth of the wrinkles a variety of aesthetic treatments can be used. In the case of expression lines Botox treatment may be the first choice, but it is quite often contraindicated. In such cases or for less severe wrinkles face lifting is the most appropriate intervention.

Procedure

  • Using dermal fillers is an outpatient intervention. It does not require special preparation, but it can only be performed on inflammation- and acne-free skin.
  • The filler (see below) is delivered to the skin using a syringe.
  • The injected filler is distributed evenly depending on the depth of the wrinkle and the thickness of the skin. Upon administration the patient may experience a little prick of the needle and tightness, certain fillers might contain anaesthetic.
  • After the procedure has been completed, the skin is disinfected again.
  • Bandage is not necessary but it is advisable to cool the treated area on the first day.

Fillers used for wrinkle treatment and their durability

  • Hyaluronic acid and its derivatives: are the most common substances. They are absorbed relatively "quickly" (in about six months), and are proven to be safe and effective. Their durability is increased with different chemical and physical methods, the half-life of certain products can even reach one year.
  • Acrylics: both biodegradable and non-biodegradable versions can be used the absorption of biodegradable acrylics takes 2-3 years. (Not used in our pratice)
  • Hydroxyapatite: naturally occurring substance in the body, a bone component among other things. Its effect can lasts for two or three years.
